Which Android phones support eSIM?

Most recent Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy flagships, and a growing number of other makers. There is no single list, because it varies by model and by the country the phone was sold in.

The same model can have eSIM in one market and not in another, particularly in China and in some models sold in Hong Kong.

So check the phone rather than the model name: if Settings → Network & internet → SIMs offers Add eSIM, it supports eSIM.

How do I check whether my phone supports eSIM?

Look for the option to add one. iPhone: Settings → Mobile Service (Cellular on some versions) → Add eSIM. Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add eSIM. If that option exists, the phone supports eSIM.

Two things have to be true, and this is only the first. The phone also has to be unlocked, which no phone will tell you from its settings.

Check both before you buy. An eSIM installs once, and a phone that cannot take it has already spent your purchase.

Will an eSIM work on a phone I bought in another country?

Usually, as long as that model has eSIM and is not locked. Both depend on where it was sold.

Some models sold in mainland China have no eSIM hardware, and some sold elsewhere in Asia differ from the international version.

The reliable test is the phone in your hand: if its settings offer to add an eSIM, it has one.

How do I install an eSIM on an Android phone?

Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add eSIM, then scan the QR code on your order page. The wording differs a little between makers, but the path is close on all of them.

Most Android phones also offer to type the details in. They give one field and want the whole activation key, which you can copy from the order page.

Install on wifi, before you travel, and leave the eSIM in place once it is there.
